Mission Statement is a brief statement (usually not more then 3 - 4 sentences) describing the purpose or reason for the company's business and the general business guidelines and company's principles. Company Mission Statements are used in business plans, company's documents, websites and internal documents. The company mission statement is shared with every stakeholder and should be well known and understood by all employees as a general guideline or roadmap for the business. The Mission Statement should also be communicated with the customers to share the basic business principles on which your business operates.
The term company mission statement is often used along the terms goals, strategy and objectives. However, unlike the mission statement the goals of the business are targets - what the company is trying to achieve and where the company is guided for the future. On the other hand, company's objectives are steps developed and used by the company to achieve its goals (progress measures). Company's objectives are means to measure business performance and progress towards achieving its overall goals. Examples for company's objectives are sales growth, market share, safety targets, etc. based on some time period such as monthly or annualy.
